River Through The Highlands: Carved Wooden Wall Sculpture (32" Diameter)
River Through the Highlands is an abstract wall sculpture hand-carved entirely from solid Black Walnut hardwood. This piece captures the essence of a rugged landscape—mountains rising above a flowing river, with a quiet forested terrain below—without relying on literal detail. Instead, layered contours and carved textures invite the viewer to interpret the scene through movement, depth, and natural form.
The rich tones and natural grain of Black Walnut bring warmth and character to the composition, while the sculpted topography creates a striking sense of dimensionality. Flowing lines suggest the rhythm of water carving its way through highlands, contrasted by the sharp, organic ridges of the mountains and the subtle texture of the forest floor.
Designed as a modern yet timeless statement piece, River Through the Highlands celebrates nature through abstraction, craftsmanship, and material honesty. Each angle reveals new details, making it a piece that continues to evolve with light and perspective.
Perfect for collectors of fine woodworking, modern rustic decor, or anyone drawn to landscapes interpreted in a contemporary, sculptural form.
Process & Craftsmanship
This piece was meticulously sculpted by hand using power carving tools, allowing the natural character of the Black Walnut to guide the form and movement of the landscape. Layer by layer, the mountains, river, and forest were shaped directly into the solid wood, creating depth, texture, and flow. Natural dyes were then carefully applied to the river and forest areas to enhance contrast while preserving the visible grain of the walnut. The sculpture is finished with two coats of an environmentally friendly satin finish made from plant-based oils and waxes. This durable, breathable finish protects the wood while maintaining a natural feel, ensuring the piece will remain rich in color and beauty for decades to come.
