Blue Ridge Mountains | Custom Reclaimed-Wood Wall Art

Inspired by the sweeping ridgelines of the Blue Ridge Mountains—part of the greater Appalachian Mountain range—this one-of-a-kind wood relief was custom-made for a wellness centre. Its layered construction brings depth, texture, and movement to the landscape while celebrating the history preserved within every salvaged board.

The reclaimed wood was sourced by the artist from nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century barns and homes throughout Ontario, Canada.

The sky is composed of sycamore, white ash, cedar, beech, black walnut, and various exotic woods. Its warm, natural colours come entirely from the wood itself—no paint or stain was applied to the sky. A protective clear finish enhances the distinctive grain and character of each species.

The distant mountain range is made from weathered white oak, while the darker second range features aged pine that once served as barn siding. The third range is weathered white oak finished with a translucent green wash. The foreground is also weathered white oak, coloured with a transparent aniline water stain. These translucent finishes allow the grain, age, and texture of the historic wood to remain visible.

Each individually shaped and layered piece of wood contributes to a richly textured landscape that changes with the light and viewing angle.
